What is Chemistry

 

Chemistry is the  study of matter, its properties, composition, and structure, and the changes it undergoes. It explores how substances interact with each other and with energy, including the transformations that occur during chemical reactions. Essentially, it's the study of "stuff" and what happens to it.

 

Why choose chemistry

 

Chemists play a vital role in the production of everyday items from shampoo to paracetamol . Chemical research and development is essential for the introduction of new products.

Chemistry is sometimes known as the "central science" because it helps to connect physical sciences, like maths and physics, with applied sciences, like biology, medicine and engineering.

All that questioning and experimentation can be handy when it comes to building a whole range of skills for work. Chemistry helps you to develop research, problem solving and analytical skills. It helps you challenge ideas and show how you worked things out through logic and step-by-step reasoning. Chemistry often requires teamwork and communication skills too, which is great for project management. All of these skills are transferable and a number of students who study chemistry  go onto careers in banking, finance, recruitment, marketing and the civil service

Chemistry plays a crucial role in a wide array of careers and is crucial if you wish a career  in medicine, environmental science, engineering, toxicology, developing consumer products, space exploration, developing perfumes and cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, energy, teaching, science writing, software development and research.

• All class lessons are posted on your young persons google classroom
• There is a separate folder in their google classroom with a number of revision resources and videos.
• All pupils have access to ‘EVANS2CHEMISTRY’ a dedicated website to all qualification levels in Chemistry
• The Chemistry department offers supported study every week, at all levels.
