Recognition The achievements of staff & young people at Alloa Academy
At Alloa Academy we encourage a learning & achievement culture amongst our staff & young people. Below are some examples of where we have gone that extra mile.
Reading School Award
Alloa Academy has recently achieved a Reading School Silver accreditation! This accreditation recognises our commitment to developing a reading culture in our school. Scottish Book Trust were impressed with all the incredible activities we have undertaken. "It was so heartening to read about how you adapted activities around covid-19 restrictions, providing fantastic opportunities and experiences for your learners, despite the strange times we’re living in.
It was similarly lovely to hear your learners speak so passionately about their reading habits; their pride in their place of learning shines through too!" Liam R McCallum School Communities Outreach Co-ordinator, Scottish Book Trust.
Results Day 2023
A massive congratulations to all of our learners. We are incredibly proud as a school community of all of your endeavours, and we hope you are pleased and proud of the results you received.
We cannot wait to continue to celebrate these achievements with you all when we return to school.
Columba 1400
We as a school have had a large involvement with the Columba 1400 programme. Staff have engaged in activities and learning discussions during in-set days as well as our entire SMT attending the Columba 1400 Headteacher Leadership Academy.
We continue to form links with Columba 1400 as a school.
LGBT Group - Success Story
The LGBT group have managed to raise a whopping £600 in order to support their involvement in the LGBT Youth Scotland School's Charter Program - working towards a National Bronze award.
The group have arranged pop-up shops, bake-sales, Purple Friday as well as organising a whole-school cinema screening of the movie 'Love Simon' in which we partnered with Lornshill Academy. We are immensely proud of their efforts and look forward to their continued success in the future.
Eco Schools Award - Our 3rd Green Flag!!
Our feedback commended us for our application to long-term objectives including a gradual reduction in litter, the ongoing maintenance of the school gardens and for our community links with climate classroom, RSPB and the Family Centre.
We would like to thank Mr Moore and his group of pupils for all their hard work and commitment in making this possible throughout a very difficult school year.
Winners of the #DigiInventors Challenge 2021
The #DigiInventorsChallenge, in association with Glasgow Warriors and the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) are on a mission to find smart new ways to help Scotland’s young people keep active, staying healthy and happy, now and in the future.
Four Alloa Academy students created 'My Mood Buddy'. The team felt passionately about young people’s mental health and wellbeing. They all brought their own personal experiences to help them help others.
They came together through community education and worked tirelessly to put their innovative ideas into action by creating a digital mobile application ‘My Mood Buddy’ to support young people’s physical and mental health and happiness. The app links users with a ‘Mood Buddy’ to help support them in managing their mental health. This companion can use the app to perform daily checks, while users can use it to keep a secure journal, personalise their content to reflect their likes, dislikes and overall mood and allows them to contact their ‘Mood Buddy’ when they need their support.
The final stages involved attending a bootcamp where there was lots of intensive hard work, dedication, commitment and preparation to ensure they had a well planned idea to help Scotland’s young people. As finalists they were up against stiff competition from 3 other high schools across Scotland. They then presented their idea in a formal pitch-setting to a panel of expert judges, before being crowned winners!
They are now at the stages of working with partners to develop a working prototype to ensure there are ways to reach out to young people’s physical, mental wellbeing in this modern world.
We are so proud of the team.
