At Alloa Academy, we strive to be inclusive in all aspects of our practice, and our uniform policy is designed to help all young people feel part of and connected to our learning community. We believe there are significant benefits in asking all pupils to wear school uniform:

• School uniform helps to level the playing field and reduces peer pressure to wear expensive, fashionable clothes—something many families may find difficult to afford. Uniform is often a more cost-effective option when providing clothing for your child to wear to school.
• Wearing a school uniform increases pupils’ self-esteem, sense of belonging, and pride in their school. Displaying the school logo and wearing the school tie helps pupils identify with the school community.
• Uniform removes the stress some pupils may experience when deciding what to wear and can help avoid disagreements between parents/carers and children about suitable clothing for school.

We are committed to maintaining high standards of uniform at Alloa Academy and rely on the continued support of you as parents and carers. Please note, we are not expecting or recommending you purchase new uniform during this summer term. This letter is only to provide clarity and allow time to plan ahead for the next school year that begins on 12th August.

We are mindful of the impact uniform costs can have on families, and we have taken steps to support those facing financial challenges. Alloa Academy receives significant annual funding from the Scottish Government to assist families, and we operate a well-stocked pre-loved uniform shop, which includes both new and gently used items. This initiative not only supports families but also promotes sustainability and reduces waste. If you have any unwanted uniform items, please consider donating them to help us continue supporting our community.

If you would like to collect uniform items from the pre-loved shop (free of charge), please contact Sharon Cummings at clscummings@glow.sch.uk. Pupils are aware that they can access the pre-loved shop at any time during the school day. Uniform items can also be purchased from Scotcrest in Alva. https://scotcrestschools.co.uk/

Our agreed School Uniform for all year groups is as follows:

· School tie – Junior (S1–S3) / Senior (S4–S6)

· White shirt or white polo shirt

· School jumper, plain black jumper or Alloa hoodie

· Black/dark trousers, plain leggings or skirt

· Black/dark footwear

Blazers are encouraged but not compulsory, with braiding on for senior pupils also being optional.
